The Mighty River Project

"Why can't we adopt a momma and her babies?  Then she won't have to be apart from them."  These words have been repeated hundreds of times in our home the last 18 months.    We are so eager to love on the children the Lord brings to us but at the edge of that eagerness and love is the awareness that a mother's heart is breaking for the choice life has forced her to make.  (This mother's heart is breaking for her, too.)    With that said, I want to introduce you to The Mighty River Project; a project that brings hope to the breaking mother's heart with the skills needed to provide for herself and her children.

"The Mighty River Project was born out of the idea that if parents can provide for their children, the likelihood of those children becoming orphaned is drastically reduced. The Littletons believe that while there are no easy solutions to the orphan crisis, future generations of children can be impacted through partnering with this generation. Scott and Erin hope that The Mighty River Project will be able to accomplish just that with the women and children in their program."

"The aim of The Mighty River Project will be threefold: FIRST, to strengthen the skill sets and finances of the women in our program by employing them to make baskets.SECOND, to provide a safe and nurturing space for the small children of our employees to play and learn while their mothers earn a living. THIRD, to provide financial and volunteer support to existing orphan care facilities, and to light a fire in our staff for indigenous orphan care. (www.themightyriverproject.com)
